Inv_Add/Remove table limitations?

$

I need a solution

Hey guys,

I am trying to get a list of what versions of Internet Explorer our clients are running.  When I query the Add/Remove table I do not get back enough results.  It seems like in the past, I went through and limited the number of rows a table can have(to control database growth), somewhere in the Altiris application.  I cannot find that.

I also am getting a lof of false-positives from the Add/Remove table.  I have set it to purge data older than 3 months and do run full inventory once a week, but most clients show both IE7 and IE 8(IE7 has been gone a lot time).  Those clients do not show IE7 anywhere in Add/Remove programs, but I did find some uninstall info for IE7 in the registry and guessing that information is coming from there.  If anyone has any ideas about a better method to gather this info, let me know.

Thanks,

Dan

We are in the process of deploying to our Solaris 10 systems. Currently we have had success on most of the systems by going through root except for one. Each time we deploy to this one system I get the following errors

Hi,

I was wondering if someone can see the reason why this would not launch. I would want this to be very specific so I would see 1.1.1.x and not 1.1.10.x

How are you guys disabling Windows updates for Windows 7, so that Altiris is the only way to patch?  We would like Windows update not to check, download or install updates even preventing users from doing these as well.

SMP 7.5 HF 3 Scroll Bar in Reports not moving

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Just sharing information and hope for a Symantec employee to pass this issue to development if it hasn't already been reported.

In Symantec Management Platform 7.5 (HF3) reports, the scroll bar does not move if you click under it to get the next page of the list. The list is hopping to next page, but the bar does not move. Grabbing the scroll bar with the cursor and pulling it down works though.

Thanks in advance.

Report for which office piece is being used out of the Suite

I need a solution

Ok so with Microsoft changing licensing I was asked for a report that shows

1. All Computers with office - Report Done

2. A list of each computer with what IS being used on that machine (word, excel, etc)

3, A list of each computer with what IS NOT being used on that machine

so I was able to find code up here on the forums to list a count of Office products and I thank the forums for that.

I need to figure out a way to get a list of machines where I can see what is or is not being used. This will be utilized to go back and do a few things.

1. uninstall Office from ALL computers not using it.

2. Uninstall say Excel or PPT and any other piece not in use.

I see a thread here

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sql...

but looking through it.. it doesnt look to me of stating that office is in use.. but more of it is installed.

Greatly appreciate any direction on this.

OK, just did the HF4 upgrade and having problems with my site servers. 4 out of 5 have not upgraded the task service.

The task service is showing on the client - the status is "Package is unavailable"

The download history shows as failed even though I see taskserversetup.exe on the site server. If I run it manually it says

"Unable to create or write to the output file"

Anyone any ideas how to fix this ?

Ghost Preserved Location Ends Up in Boot Partition After Imaging

$

I need a solution

I'm developing an automated process to migrate our users form XP to Win 7.

Our XP Image has a single partiion and I'm using PCTransplant to backup user data to C:\XP-Backups

My Gost image command switch -Preserve=C:\XP-Backups should keep that location intact while the image is deployed.

The Win 7 Image has two partitions and when Ghost deploys my image it's preserving XP-Backups in the Boot partition because during deplyment the boot partition is labeled Volume C:\ and the System partition where the OS is located and all other files is labled D: or E:.. it's only when the image finishes and the machine restarts that the system partition is labeled C:\ and thus my preserved files are lost.

Any ideas on how I can solve this?

Software Delivery - Install based on Outlook x86 or x64

I need a solution

I have searched around and haven't found anything that really applies yet so if this is similar to another post I apologize.

We have a Mimecast Outlook plug in we're going to install but the problem is my predecessor had installed 32bit Office on Win 7 64 bit images so now we have a mix of 32/64 bit and I need to be able to install the Mimecast version accordingly.

I created a 32bit and a 64bit package for the install. I went to Associations for of the packages and add Office versions listed as 32 or 64 bit respectively.

ss1.PNG

ss2.PNG

I was going to create one policy for all of this and just place both software packages in there and let the dependencies do the work. When I try adding one of these softwares I get the error below (when I remove the "depends on" software from the packages it adds to the delivery policy fine).

ss3.PNG

Any ideas on why this is happening? Instead of using the Depends on option should I just create an applicability rule that states it can only be install if certain versions of Office are there?

Software Delivery Tab not rendering applied policies

I need a solution

Good afternoon,

I've got an interesting one that I am hoping someone might have encountered. we recently updated from a fresh Altiris 7.1 implementation all the way to R7. This included an updated Symantec Management agent taking us from build 8400 ro 8450. we have been seeing an issue where the Software Delivery tab on the Symantec management Agent is blank when you open it on the client. Immediatley when you open the UI the error below is logged.

Source: AexSWDAgentUI
Module: smfagent.dll
Text: LoadList():Com_Error Msg:Invalid Pointer
Process: AexAgentUIHost.exe

Tis results in any applied Policies not being listed or accessible in the agent UI. We have been reinstalling the agent when we see this and functionality seems to return to normal. We don;t see any evidence of impaired functionality other than the fact that we cannot manipulate the assigned policies inside the agent itself.

The agent looks like this (see Below)

Agent_Blank.jpg

My initial thought is that we could have had issues with some of the agents updating but at this point I have not seen anything documented on this anywhere. We are working through it with Sym Support but I wanted to throw this out there to the community to see if any of you have seen this.

Thank you

I need a solution

Hi Guys

I have two questions, first there is a way to disable the Altiris icon in Altiris 7.5 in a terminal server session? the agentui is consumming alot of resources in the server because it opens again, again and again.  I resolved this issue in 7.1 disabling the show tray icon option in the agent configuration policy, but it dont work in 7.5.

The second questions is, how i can change the view of Manage->Computers? I want the old 7.1 version back, is that possible?

Thanks!

Report with variable for Table name

I need a solution

so I know a little sql - enough to get some things done... with that I have used variables in the where statement....

but what I am looking to do is see if I can use 1 report to have a drop down list for the table name.

We archive computers out and sofware delivery records out. I would like to have 1 report called Altiris NS6 and NS7 Archived Records. You would simply select NS6 systems or NS6 SWD or either for NS7.x.

With this the report would show the records for either table...

thoughts?

As part of our upgrade documentation...it asked to check the logs after upgrading.

I had two errors. The first, I was able to resolve

The other error, which I can find no information on is:
