Event log informatino collection

I am looking for a way to collect windows event log information using Altiris.  I saw this article but it is very vague on how to actually use the files associated with the article. https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO8544.html

I need to be able to look for specific event log entires and get them into a report.  Custom inventory sounds like the best solution?
