Change Software Portal to use SSL? How?

Is there a way to change the portal to use SSL?

I don't have our NS requiring SSL, but all our clients do use SSL to communicate.  So IIS on the webserver is configured to accept both.

I found this older article talking about it and it states just change the portal page to require SSL, well I do that and it still attempts to use port 80 and I get an error

Any thoughts?  Or is the only way to change my entire server to require SSL?
