I need a solution
While logged onto a users machien trying to fix a 'known' pcanywhere issue I notcied the symantec agent was not running in the system tray (windows XP)
The service was running in 'services'. I clicked on activateagent and the icon appeared - when I checked it I seen that it hadn't updated in the last 5 hours. (that would explain why it was not getting the policy to fix PCanywhere) I had to restart the service to get it to update. I've noticed this on a few machines and i'm starting to wonder how reliable is this agent....
